Oludeniz
Turkey is one of Europe's top destinations for paragliding. The combination
of excellent reliable flying conditions and the stunning scenery of
the turquoise coast ensure that more pilots are heading this way each
year.
The mountain of Babadag (translates as father mountain) which rises
out of the Fethiye plain, the back drop to the resort has several take
off points, the highest being at 6500ft. As well as being a destination
for experienced paraglider pilots many people on holiday in Turkey take
a tandem flight with one of the paragliding businesses based in Oludeniz.
You are driven from the beach front to one of the mountain take off
points, here you launch with an experienced pilot, just a few steps
and away you go, then it's time to relax and enjoy the flight and take
in the breathtaking views of the turquoise sea, blue lagoon and mountains.
At the end of your flight you will land gently on the promenade which
stretches along the beach front. Don't forget your camera.
What
is a paraglider?
Paragliders
have evolved from parachute canopies and hangliders and are a fairly
recent aviation development. The paraglider canopy is made up of cells
which inflate as air flows through slots at the front, forming a semi
rigid wing section. The wing behaves exactly the same as a normal aircraft
wing section and the paraglider can soar the same way as a glider. One
great advantage is that they are very portable as all the equipment
can be packed into a large rucksack.
