One thing
that will remind you of your holiday to Turkey and the Turquoise Coast
is a beautiful hand made Turkish carpet. Anatolian and Nomadic Carpets
is one of Fethiyes original and oldest established carpet shops. With
literally thousands of quality Turkish carpets on sale you can choose
from a vast range of wool, wool and silk and pure silk carpets and also
a huge range of Kilims (flat woven carpets), all carpets are hand made
and available at fantastic prices.
Every carpet is a piece of art, with no two the same, the patterns resemble
a collection of messages, beliefs and symbols. The craft of carpet weaving
dates back to the 13th century and the Anatolian region has always been
a source of high quality carpets.
Anatolian carpets began to appear in Europe from the 14th century, with
a further increase in the 15th century. Usak and Bergama were significant
weaving centres in 16th century Anatolia and can be found decorating
museums in Europe.

How are Turkish Carpets Made?
Carpets and rugs are divided in three types
- Carpets
which are knotted
-
Kilims which are a flat weave
- sumaks
and cicims which are embroidered
The Skilled
Turkish master weavers don't usually work from drawn patterns or designs,
but create their carpets from their memories. The next step is the choice
of material, wool, pure silk and cotton are all used by the Turkish
carpet weavers. The stunning colours that are found in the carpets are
all created from natural dyes which are mixed from plants native to
Turkey.
